Arisi Uppuma ( Traditional, No Onion & No Garlic Receipe)

Arisi Rava _ 1 cup

Butter milk _ 1 tumbler

Carrot _ 2 optional

Bell pepper _ 1 optional

Salt _ to taste

Seasoning

Mustard seeds _ 1 ½ tsp.

Jeera _ 1 tsp.

Split urad dal _ 3 tsp.

Channa dal _ 4 tsp.

Red chilly _ 4 nos

Hing _ 1 tsp.

Curry leaves _ few

Oil _4 tbsp ( sesame oil )

Method

1. Grind raw rice 1 cup+ 2 tsp. tuvar dal ( optional) to a coarse powder . ( rava size)

2. Chop the capsicum & carrot into small cubes.

3. Heat 4 tbsp oil in a heavy bottom kadai or pan, add seasoning item one by one like mustard,jeera,uraddal, channadal,hing split redchilly and curry leaves.

4. When the dals turn lightbrown ,add the vegetables. Allow them to cook for 5 minutes, now add butter milk, 1 tumbler water and salt.

5. Let it come to a rolling boil, add the ground rice and dal powder. Mix well and cover with the lid & lower the flame.

6. Stir occasionally, it takes about half an hour from the uppuma to get cooked completely. You can allow more time to get roasted content.

7. Serve hot with any tiffin sambar or tomato chatney .

Note:

1. Traditional arisiuppuma doesnot have vegetables. You can add any vegetables of your choice like carrot, beans, capsicum,green peas,onion

2. Butter milk is the most important of this receipe.

3. The upma taste good , the next day
