varagu rice – 1cup
pepper – 1/2 tsp
Tuvar dal – 1 tbsp
Butter milk – 1/2 tumbler
Onion – 1
Carrot – 1
Kodamilakai – 1 small size
Salt – to taste
Seasoning:
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Jeera – 1/2 tsp
Split uraddal – 2 tsp
Channa dal -2 tsp
Red chilly – 6
Curry leaves – few
Hing – 1/2 tsp
Oil -5tbsp
Procedure:
Coarse grind varagu rice, pepper and tuvar dal in a mixer and keep aside.
Add oil to a heavy bottom kadai, add all the ingredients given under seasoning.
Add the vegetables, cut in small size, preferably lengthy cuts and saute well.
Then add water at 1:4 ratio to the above mixture, add salt. Butter milk 1/2 tumbler
as per preference.
While boiling , add coarsely ground varagu, pepper, tuvar dal mixture and stir often.
Then cover with a lid and cook in medium flame for 15 minutes.
Check for salt and add if necessary.
Serve with chutney or sambar.
