Murrunkakeerai kootu( Drumstick leaves)

Drumstick Leaves Kootu

Ingredients:

Drumstick leaves – 1 bunch

Moong dal -3 tsp.

Sambar powder – 1tsp

Onion – 1 finely chopped

Garlic – 2-3 , finely chopped

Tomato – 1 medium size.

Salt – to taste.

Seasoning:

Mustard seeds – 1tsp

Cumin seeds – 1/2tsp

Split uraddal – 1/2tsp

Asafoetida – 1/2tsp

Oil – 1tsp

Procedure:

In a kadai , boil 11/2 glass of water , add 3 tsp moong dal.

When the moong dal is 3/4 th cooked , add the cleaned green leaves, chopped tomato, sambar powder, salt and give a nice mix.

Allow the contents to cook until the raw smell of sambar powder goes off.

Now in a small kadai , add 1tbsp oil, splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafetida, split uraddal , when the dal turns brown , add finely chopped onion and garlic.

Saute for 2 minutes , now add this to the gravy.

Mix well and serve hot with Roti, Dosa and Steamed White Rice.

Note:

Donot allow the gravy / kootu to boil longer as it gives bitter taste.

Drumstick leaves cook faster so neednot boil the kootu longer.

This kootu can be done without onion and garlic also.
